October 7 - Analyzing Transcriptions - Sonny Stitt
October 14 - Coltrane Pentatonics - Modes & Uses
October 21 - Gospel & Blues - How To Get “That” Sound
October 28 - Fluidity & Fingers - Finding The Flow

I’ve done these workshops over the past year in various cities around the USA and Canada, and now I’m thrilled to open them up to adult amateur and semi-pro musicians across the world. Our “Live and Online” Zoom conference format is something I’ve used extensively, and it works fantastically for this type of class interaction.

How It Works:
We get together on a video call, where everyone can see and hear each other. I send you a little information and a video ahead of time to help you get ready (if you choose to do so). And then, we dig in. I share the concepts for the workshop of the day, and then I play for you, AND you have the opportunity to play for me. We ask and answer questions, and it’s an interactive experience where you can be heard, be supported in your practice, and leave inspired.

Timing:
The workshop is from 2pm - 3:15pm EST (New York Time). The good news is that if you can’t join us for the entire class, we can send you the recording or the workshop, along with all of the material we’ll cover.

Nuts and Bolts:
The workshops are a maximum of 15 participants, so that we can really have some good quality time together. The audio and video from the workshop will be shared with you afterwards, so you can refer back to the workshop whenever you like. Our participants find incredible value in the JazzWire Workshops, and I’m thrilled to be able to offer them to you.

Cancellation Policy:
This is a limited offer and availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need to cancel at any time, for any reason, you will not be refunded, but 1) we are happy to send you the recording of the workshops, or 2) you may have the opportunity to apply a credit toward a future workshop. With specific questions or needs regarding this policy and/or service, please email us at matt.cleary@diggingdeeperjazz.com.
Online Workshop October 7th, 2 - 3:15pm EST: Analyzing Transcriptions - Sonny Stitt - $35
*SOLD OUT* (Recording Available in "Recording" section)

We all know that it’s important to work with transcriptions of great jazz solos, but what exactly does that mean? What should we be looking for, and once we find it, what do we do with it? How do we squeeze the juice out of these classic solos? Using Sonny Stitt’s solo on the classic song “Indiana,” we’ll investigate some powerful ideas that will apply to ALL instruments.

Each workshop includes prep work sent out in advance (videos and written material). There are also plenty of opportunities for follow-up and staying connected with Jeff and with each other after the workshop. Prepare to have fun, learn a ton, and meet some amazing musicians like yourself from around the world.

*SOLD OUT* (Recording Available in "Recording" section)

The Coltrane Pentatonic Scale (also referred to as the m7b5 Pentatonic Scale) is a very interesting and very usable grouping of five notes. It has applications on major, minor, half diminished and altered chords, plus plenty more. We’ll look at how to build it, some great applications in everyday songs, and some excellent patterns to help us get the music out of it.

There are also plenty of opportunities for follow-up and staying connected with Jeff and with each other after the workshop. Online Workshop October 21, 2 - 3:15pm EST - Gospel & Blues - How To Get “That” Sound - $35
The sound of gospel and the blues is integral to jazz, but what are we talking about exactly? Is it only an emotion and feel, or are there some theoretical and mechanical underpinnings to this sound and style? Here, we’ll put back the veil and see what exactly is going on in some classic songs like “Sister Sadie,” “Work Song”, and “Moanin’.”

Each workshop includes prep work sent out in advance (videos and written material). There are also plenty of opportunities for follow-up and staying connected with Jeff and with each other after the workshop. Fluidity (mental and mechanical) is able to be developed by all, once we learn how to get our of our own way. Here, we’ll look at some specific and tangible approaches to get you there.
