It’s a crazy time in human history. Musicians all over the world are not jamming, not going to concerts, not attending their rehearsals, and not getting to connect with each other. It’s a sad time for many of us. Music, and especially jazz, is an "in-the-moment" kind of thing. It requires a push and pull, an engaged communication. Let’s keep our music rolling with Digging Deeper Jazz Workshops.

Each workshop includes prep work sent out in advance (videos and written material). There are also plenty of opportunities for followup and staying connected with Jeff and with each other after the workshop. Prepare to have fun, learn a ton, and meet some amazing musicians like yourself from around the world.

September 17 - Funk & Rock Playing
September 24 - Tritone Subs (the V chord)
October 1 - Build Your Vocabulary (the I chord)
October 8 - Advanced Rhythm Changes

I’ve done these workshops over the past year in various cities around the USA and Canada, and now I’m thrilled to open them up to adult amateur and semi-pro musicians across the world. Our “Live and Online” Zoom conference format is something I’ve used extensively, and it works fantastically for this type of class interaction.

How It Works:
We get together on a video call, where everyone can see and hear each other. I send you a little information and a video ahead of time to help you get ready (if you choose to do so). And then, we dig in. I share the concepts for the workshop of the day, and then I play for you, AND you have the opportunity to play for me. We ask and answer questions, and it’s an interactive experience where you can be heard, be supported in your practice, and leave inspired.

Timing:
The workshop is from 1pm - 2:15pm EST (New York Time). The good news is that if you can’t join us in real time, we can send you the recording or the workshop, along with all of the material we’ll cover.

Nuts and Bolts:
The workshops are a maximum of 15 participants, so that we can really have some good quality time together. The audio and video from the workshop will be shared with you afterwards, so you can refer back to the workshop whenever you like. Our participants find incredible value in the Digging Deeper Jazz Workshops, and I’m thrilled to be able to offer them to you.

Cancellation Policy:
This is a limited offer and availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need to cancel at any time, for any reason, you will not be refunded, but 1) we are happy to send you the recording of the workshops, or 2) you may have the opportunity to apply a credit toward a future workshop. With specific questions or needs regarding this policy and/or service, please email us at diggingdeeperjazz@gmail.com.
Digging Deeper Jazz Online Workshop - September 17, 1 - 2:15pm EST - Funk & Rock Playing - $35
Jazz players have been playing funk and rock feels for decades, going back to gospel music, the blues, and the boogaloos of the 1960’s. It’s fun music, and it’s an important part of the pantheon of jazz styles. We’ll take a look at some of the melodic and stylistic elements that are so central to this style. Scales, tone, vibrato and articulation are just a few waypoints in our workshop. For ALL instruments.

Digging Deeper Jazz Online Workshop - September 24, 1 - 2:15pm EST - Tritone Subs (the V chord) - $35
For the intermediate and more advanced player, tritone substitutes are an important part of our harmonic and melodic language. They are a necessary ingredient in understanding what many of our heroes were thinking when they played their great solos. In this workshop, we’ll look at the underpinnings of the tritone sub, and most importantly, we’ll look at and play some classic tritone sub licks. You’ll leave with a wealth of new understanding, and some great new vocabulary. For ALL instruments.

Digging Deeper Jazz Online Workshop - October 1, 1 - 2:15pm EST - Build Your Vocabulary (the I chord) - $35
We all need to be building our jazz vocabulary, but so many of us ignore the “I” chord, the tonic chord. In this workshop, we’ll spend some time learning about extending tensions, delaying resolutions, and sounding hipper than most of your peers! As always, you’ll leave with some great licks that you’ll understand, and will be able to use immediately. For ALL instruments.
